My Story

I am inspired to run for State Representative because of my lifelong desire to ensure that every child has the best chance possible to fulfill her dreams.  My own personal story helped shape these aspirations: my mother was raised in an orphanage until the age of 18 and was never able to complete high school. She raised me alone, working two jobs and struggling to find quality childcare during her long shifts away from home. Yet she instilled in me the belief that education was the most important pathway to a better future. Through my mother’s determination, and the support of social services when we needed them the most, my life trajectory is dramatically different than I thought possible 40 years ago.

The Time is Critical

Yet, here we are in some of the most resource rich communities in the country, while the Trump/Rauner agenda ignores working families who are struggling like mine did. Our state government is failing because political agendas, personal interests, and right-wing ideologies have taken the place of simply doing what’s right for our children, our families, and our most vulnerable citizens. Enhancing early childhood and public education, providing better access to affordable housing, health care, and training for livable wage jobs are the kinds of common sense and compassionate investments we must fight for.

Not Your Typical Politician

I am not a career politician. I am a working mom and a progressive Democrat who believes strongly that we all have an important role to play in supporting those who need it the most. We cannot be the generation who fails our children and bankrupts their futures. We cannot allow right-wing ideologies and political agendas to erode the institutions that made it possible for families like mine to succeed. I would like to represent you as part of the next generation of progressive leaders in Springfield working to find common sense and compassionate solutions.
