Thank You Friends for a Great First Petition Drive
We have collected 250 signatures in just one week!
We started our day at Backlot Coffee (Thank you for the space John Kim)! We set off at 10 a.m. to greet folks on Central Street and then canvassed the neighborhoods around Willard School. I spoke with many parents of school-age children about their ongoing concerns regarding the entrenched agendas and prevalence of personal interests taking precedence over the public good in Springfield. There is so much frustration.
Many are stumped by what can possibly be done to improve our state. My response was one of hope and honesty - the solution will take time because it's taken time to get into this mess. However, collectively we can stand up and say we expect better of our state, and we can make change happen. Illinois cannot continue to be the 50th state in the US in terms of state funding for public education - the most important pillar of a democratic society. We cannot let our public universities crumble. We cannot continue to pay a quarter on every dollar to interest on current unpaid bills. We must do better. And, we can.
Thank you to Nick K, Bridget N, Vaishali P, Lisa and Dan C and others who canvassed with us! #NotOnOurWatch
